
Zambia Police Service recorded 30 deaths during the Easter period, with 37 serious accidents leaving 75 people with serious injuries.
Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi says a total of 386 road traffic accidents were recorded countrywide, out of which 90 were slight injury accidents accounting for 125 minor injuries, with the remaining 237 being damage-only accidents.
Mr. Chilabi says road traffic accident cases have increased in 2026 by 60 cases compared to 326 road traffic accidents in 2025, representing an 18.4 percent increase.
He adds that fatal accidents increased from 21 in 2025 to 22 in 2026, with the number of fatalities reduced from 32 to 30, serious accidents decreased from 43 in 2025 to 37 in 2026, and serious injuries also dropped from 81 to 75.
Mr. Chilabi says Lusaka Province recorded the highest number of accidents at 154, followed by Copperbelt Province with 104. Central Province recorded 31 accidents, North-Western Province 21, while Southern and Muchinga provinces recorded 18 each. Eastern Province recorded 17 accidents, Western and Luapula provinces recorded 8 each, and Northern Province recorded 7 accidents.
