The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has appointed Chris Kaunda as head coach of the Zambia Under-17 boys’ national team ahead of the upcoming COSAFA Under-17 Championship. Dennis Makinka has been named assistant coach, with Dabwitso Nkhoma serving as second assistant, Collins Mbesuma as strikers coach and Joshua Titima as goalkeeper coach.
FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya said the appointments are aimed at giving the team enough time to prepare for upcoming assignments. He said the association is confident Kaunda’s experience will strengthen the squad as it targets qualification for the Africa U17 Cup of Nations, which also serves as a qualifier for the FIFA U17 World Cup.
The technical bench also includes Clive Hichilensa as fitness coach, Nathan Sinkala as equipment manager, Matambo Lukhanda as team manager and Keith Mulamba as security officer. Dr Emmanuel Kanswe and Isaac Sichali make up the medical team, while 2012 AFCON-winning midfielder Rainford Kalaba has been appointed team ambassador.
