The Zambia Police Service has condemned political violence and malicious damage to property recorded in Kitwe and Ndola, with a task force now investigating attacks targeting National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) supporters in Kitwe.
Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi says Kitwe Central Police Station received seven reports of suspected politically motivated malicious damage to property on July 24, 2026.
Five incidents occurred at a named hotel, while two others were recorded along Boma Street and near Mukuba Mall.
Mr. Chilabi says the vandalised vehicles belong to NRPUP officials and supporters, adding that seven case dockets have since been opened.
In Ndola, Mr. Chilabi says police are also investigating a break-in and theft at the UPND Secretariat offices in Twapia Old Market, reported on July 23 by aspiring Twapia Ward councillor Henry Kabwebwe.
He says two motorcycles and four bicycles were stolen, with the value of the stolen property yet to be established.
Meanwhile, police have apprehended 14 suspects after Tonse Alliance supporters allegedly held unauthorised roadshows in Chifubu and Kawama Townships and threw stones at officers.
In a separate incident, 13 suspected UPND supporters have been arrested and charged with Idle and Disorderly Conduct in Twapia Compound before being released after paying Admission of Guilt fines.
