
Zambia’s childhood immunization efforts are facing a serious setback as funding gaps and logistical challenges threaten to reverse years of public health progress.
Lundazi Member of Parliament Brenda Nyirenda has raised concerns over the growing number of unvaccinated children in remote areas, with some families crossing into Malawi to access essential immunization services.
Speaking at the launch of the Parliamentary Caucus Committee on Immunisation, CHAZ Acting Chief Executive Officer Michael Kachumi has described the drop in measles coverage as “alarming,” citing recent aid cuts as a major factor.
Ministry of Health Acting Director of Public Health, Dr. Angel Mwiche, acknowledged the strides made by government in vaccine procurement and cold chain management, but stressed the urgent need for sustained domestic financing.
