ECZ REGISTERS OVER 132,000 VOTERS SINCE JANUARY 2023

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has successfully registered a total of 132,043 new voters during its continuous voter registration (CRV) exercise between January 2023 and December 2024. This significant milestone reflects the Commission’s ongoing efforts to ensure widespread voter participation in the upcoming August 2026 general elections.

In a statement issued by ECZ Corporate Affairs Manager Patricia Luhanga, the newly registered voters comprise 67,304 males and 64,739 females, highlighting a near-equal gender representation in the voter registration process.

Ms. Luhanga further revealed that December 2024 alone saw 10,264 new voters added to the electoral roll. This group consisted of 5,192 males and 5,072 females. Among the districts, Mumbwa recorded the highest number of registered voters in December, with a total of 966, while Solwezi registered the lowest, with just six new voters.

The ongoing voter registration drive is part of the ECZ’s broader strategy to enhance voter inclusivity and accessibility ahead of the 2026 elections. The exercise is being conducted in 30 districts across the country, ensuring that Zambians have ample opportunity to register and exercise their democratic right to vote.

The Commission has reiterated its commitment to facilitating a transparent, efficient, and inclusive electoral process. Ms. Luhanga encouraged eligible citizens who have not yet registered to take advantage of the continuous voter registration initiative.

“As we prepare for the 2026 general elections, it is imperative that every eligible Zambian takes part in shaping the country’s future by registering to vote,” she said.

The ECZ has also called on political parties, civic leaders, and other stakeholders to raise awareness about the importance of voter registration and to mobilize communities to participate in the ongoing exercise.

Zambia’s commitment to democracy is underscored by efforts like the CRV, which aim to ensure that every citizen’s voice is heard at the ballot box. The ECZ has assured the public that it will continue to update the nation on voter registration progress and any related developments as the 2026 elections approach.

Citizens can visit their nearest ECZ offices or designated registration centers to register or update their voter information. The Commission has emphasized the importance of keeping voter details up to date to avoid inconveniences during the electoral process.

For more information on the registration process and locations, the ECZ has encouraged the public to visit its official website or contact its district offices.
