The Lusaka Magistrate Court has threatened to revoke bail of former Presidential Spokesperson, Amos Chanda, for not appearing before court.

In this matter Mr. Chanda is facing two counts of theft and destroying evidence.

It is alleged in count one, between May 12, 2020, and October 1, 2022, in Lusaka, Mr. Chanda jointly and whilst acting together with others unknown, allegedly stole a case record Number CRMP/001/2020, property of the government of Zambia.

In the second count, between the same dates, Mr. Chanda having known that the said case record may be required in evidence in judicial proceedings, allegedly willfully destroyed it, with intent to prevent it from being used in evidence.

And when the matter came up for continued trial before Magistrate Irene Wishimanga, one of the lawyers representing the accused person Benjamin Mwewa informed the court that he had not seen his client before court including the sureties.

Arising from that, Magistrate Wishimanga warned both the accused and the sureties for not having complied with bail conditions and should the same issue occur in the next sitting on April 19, 2023, Mr. Chanda’s bail will be revoked.
