English Premier League side Aston Villa has joined the football fraternity in mourning Zambian football legend Fred Mwila, who died at the age of 80. In a statement, the club expressed condolences to Mwila’s family and friends, describing him as a former player who made his mark in the game.

Born in Kasama, Zambia, in 1946, Mwila made his international debut in 1965 before joining Atlanta Chiefs in 1967. His impressive performances alongside fellow Zambian Emment Kapengwe attracted the attention of Aston Villa manager Tommy Docherty, who signed the two players in August 1969.

The duo went on to join the English club as professional players, marking an important chapter in Mwila’s football career and further cementing his place in Zambia’s rich football history.
