DEMOCRATS TAKE CONTROL OF US CONGRESS AS VOTERS REJECT TRUMP’S REPUBLICANS

.

The Democrats win the Senate and the House in US midterm elections, taking control of Congress for the rest of Donald Trump’s presidency.

Trump says the Democrats “did a good job” – and acknowledges the Iran war, and higher fuel prices, played a part in the defeat.

There is no mystery about why this happened, writes our North America editor – voters are angry about the cost of living, and blame the president.

In the Senate race, Democrats picked up a string of victories in Republican strongholds, including Texas, Ohio, and Kansas – which last elected a Democrat almost 100 years ago.

With control of Congress, Democrats will be able to frustrate President Trump’s plans for the next two years – and could even try to impeach him for a third time.
