Police in Mazabuka yesterday disrupted a campaign launch organized by independent Mazabuka Central parliamentary candidate, Gary Nkombo.
Addressing his supporters before the disruption, Mr. Nkombo disclosed that the day had initially been allocated to fellow candidate Clayson Hachintu for campaigning.
He further stated that an arrangement approved and signed by the District Electoral Officer had been made for Mr. Hachintu to campaign from Nega Nega, thereby allowing him to launch his campaign.
However, police officers informed Mr. Nkombo that he would not be allowed to hold his meeting from the designated location.
In a bid to disperse Mr. Nkombo’s supporters, police fired tear gas and rubber bullets resulting in commotion in the locality.
As a result, the campaign launch failed to take place.
