United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Anderson Banda has been declared the winner of the Lumezi North Parliamentary by-election.
Mr. Banda has been declared the winner by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Lumezi North Returning Officer Michael Simwiinga after the resignation from the election by Leadership Movement candidate Nebby Manda.
Earlier today, the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), who were scheduled to file their nomination, failed because the leadership of NRPUP wrote to ECZ that they would not take part in the by-election.
However, the valid nomination of Nebby Manda could not allow the by-election to go ahead because he has resigned.
This means Anderson Banda of the UPND has gone unopposed.
Speaking immediately after being declared the winner, Mr. Banda pledged to work with everyone.
