The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has filed an affidavit seeking to join a judicial review case challenging a decision by the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) to conduct a full-scope on-site inspection at D Findlay Law Firm in Lusaka.
Lusaka businessman Valden Findlay has petitioned the Lusaka High Court over the decision to conduct a search at his law firm, citing the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) and the Attorney General (AG) as the first and second respondents.
LAZ President Lungisani Zulu argues that the inspection threatens legal professional privilege and the confidentiality of advocate-client communications, which are crucial to the administration of justice and the legal profession.
LAZ, established under the Law Association of Zambia Act, aims to regulate the legal profession, uphold standards, and promote the rule of law.
Zulu states that the association’s involvement will provide a broader professional perspective on the legal and constitutional issues.
The court case stems from a January 29, 2026, decision by the FIC, which obtained a search warrant to inspect and search D Findlay Law Firm’s premises.
LAZ contends that its participation will aid the court in adjudicating the matter without prejudicing the respondents.
