GOVT CALLS FOR CALM OVER ARREST OF FIVE SENANGA TEACHERS

Permanent Secretary for Educational Services Kelvin Mambwe has called for calm following the arrest of five teachers in Senanga District, linked to an alleged incident involving a learner.

Mr. Mambwe hss emphasised that while schools must remain safe spaces for learners, the rights and professional dignity of teachers must also be protected.

He has stressed that the Ministry does not condone any form of abuse, but has cautioned against rushing to conclusions before investigations are concluded.

The development comes amid heightened public debate after a viral video from Senanga Day Secondary School circulated on social media, prompting reactions from various stakeholders, including teacher unions advocating for legal representation for the accused educators.

Mr. Mambwe hss further expressed concern over the potential impact of the incident on both the learner and the teachers, urging that the matter be handled with sensitivity and fairness.

He has reiterated that discipline in schools must always be exercised within established legal and professional frameworks.

He has since called on parents, communities, and educators to work together in promoting discipline and mutual respect among learners, adding that the Ministry will continue engaging relevant authorities to ensure justice is served while safeguarding the integrity of the education system.
