The LCK Freedom Foundation and Chapter One Foundation have petitioned the High Court to urgently halt the tabling and processing of 77 Bills currently before Parliament.
The two organisations, led by executive directors Linda Kasonde and Josiah Kalala, have filed for judicial review challenging the Government’s plan to process the Bills within a nine day period from 4th to 12th May 2026.
They are seeking a court order to stay the process, declare the timeline unlawful and irrational, and rule that the suspension of Standing Orders is unconstitutional as it undermines public participation required under Article 89 of the Constitution.
The organisations argue that they support law making but oppose the rushed process, stating that meaningful public participation is essential to democracy and the creation of sound laws.
