Zambia Athletics (ZA) has dismissed allegations raised by Olympic medallist Muzala Samukonga regarding the support and management of athletes in the country.
ZA General Secretary Teddy Shimishii says Zambia Athletics has been receiving support from the Government, through the Ministry of Sport, as well as the National Sports Council of Zambia and the National Olympic Committee of Zambia, for various competitions.
Shimishii has also clarified that travel and other logistical arrangements vary depending on the nature of the competition, with some individual and professional events handled with the support of athletes’ agents or representatives.
He says Zambia Athletics remains committed to the welfare and development of athletes while urging members to use established communication channels when raising concerns affecting the sport.
Shimishii says the federation will, however, thoroughly investigate the matter in line with its procedures and safeguarding policies, with a comprehensive report expected once the process is concluded.
He has called on athletes, officials and other stakeholders to remain united as Zambia continues its efforts to develop athletics.
