A 39-year-old man of Siansowa Area in Sinazongwe District, Southern Province, is appealing for financial assistance after suffering serious injuries in a hippo attack on Lake Kariba.
Oscar Bwalya was attacked on 20th March 2026 and sustained severe injuries to his leg and hand.
According to his brother-in-law, Isaac Choongo, doctors at Choma General Hospital have indicated that K13,050 is needed for medical procedures and metal implants required for surgery on his broken leg.
The family has so far raised only K4,000.
Mr. Choongo says Oscar has been referred to several hospitals, including Maamba, Mazabuka General and Choma General hospitals.
He added that more than a month has passed without surgery, and pus is now coming from the wounds, raising fears of further complications.
Oscar is currently admitted to Choma District General Hospital.
