Four foreign suspects in the gold gate scandal have sued Chelstone Police Station, The Drug Enforcement Commission and the Attorney General over their continued detention.

The applicants are Ali Abdulla Ali Al-Safi, Noha Salaheldin Aly Nadim, David De La Cruz Castilla and Teunis De Mooij citizens of Nevis, Egypt, Spanish and Dutch respectively.

The applicants have told the court that their continued detention is against human rights as the offence of giving false information to a public servant is a bondable offence.

The applicants have told the court that they were interrogated for over 15 hours and were denied access to lawyers.

The fourth applicant, De Mooij says he is hypertensive and was denied access to his medication throughout the period.

The applicants were detained alongside nine others at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport where a plane was intercepted carrying weapons, $5 million cash and fake gold.
