The Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) has confirmed receiving reports of a lion on the loose.

According to details released to the media by Ministry of Tourism Public Relations Officer, Sakabilo Kalembwe, wildlife officers; among them from the veterinary department, are patrolling Lilayi in case the big cat is spotted.

Mr. Kalembwe says in the interest of preserving human life, residents have been advised to take precautionary measures such as avoiding lone walks.

Last night, social media was awash with reports of a lion sighting around Texila American University and Oryx Filling Station.

A check by Diamond Media at midnight found frightened fuel attendants locked in an office and one of the employees narrated the suspicious sighting.

However, there have been conflicting views with some people claiming it may have been a huge dog spotted around the named places.

It is not the first time that lions have strayed into urban Lusaka and Kafue Districts, in 2020 a lioness escaped from Munda Wanga and in May 2022 two lions were filmed.
