United Party for National Development (UPND) member Charles Longwe has filed a complaint with the Judicial Complaints Commission (JCC), accusing seven Constitutional Court judges of incompetence over their decision declaring President Hakainde Hichilema eligible to contest this year’s general election.
The complaint follows the Constitutional Court’s 19th June 2026 judgment dismissing Longwe’s challenge to President Hichilema’s nomination. He had argued that the UPND Extraordinary Elective Conference and the subsequent nomination process did not comply with constitutional and electoral requirements.
Longwe has named Constitutional Court Deputy President Arnold Shilimi and Justices Mathew Chisunka, Mudford Mwandenga, Martin Musaluke, Maria Kawimbe, Judy Mulongoti, and Gertrude Imbwae, alleging that they misinterpreted the Constitution and electoral laws by failing to properly determine issues surrounding nomination procedures, party sponsorship, and the legal effect of adoption certificates.
He has asked the Judicial Complaints Commission to investigate the judges’ conduct under Articles 143 and 144 of the Constitution.
