Government has dismissed allegations circulating against Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Geoffrey Zyeele, describing them as misleading, speculative and inconsistent with the country’s Constitution and laws.
Speaking at a media briefing, Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana says the Zambia Defence Force operates under civilian authority and remains committed to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, constitutional order and democratic processes.
Mr Kawana further clarifies that while the Defence Force may support civil authorities when lawfully directed, responsibility for election administration and security remains with the Electoral Commission of Zambia and the Zambia Police Service respectively.
Government has since urged citizens to reject misinformation and maintain confidence in national institutions as the country prepares for the 2026 General Elections.
