
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Gift Sialubalo, has officially bid farewell to staff at the ministry, describing the gathering as a moment of reflection, gratitude, and appreciation as Parliament prepares to dissolve ahead of the upcoming general election.
Mr. Sialubalo says he found it important to personally interact with members of staff before his departure, noting that the opportunity to serve in the ministry was a rare privilege entrusted to him by President Hakainde Hichilema.
He has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Head of State for the confidence placed in him, which he said enabled him to build meaningful working relationships across all levels of the ministry.
Speaking during the farewell interaction, Permanent Secretary Gabriel Pollen, alongside members of staff, commended the Minister for the gesture, describing it as unprecedented and the first of its kind.
They expressed appreciation for his leadership and openness, adding that such engagement had strengthened unity and morale within the institution.
Staff from various departments including directors, drivers, cleaners, aides, and other support personnel were all recognized by Mr. Sialubalo, who emphasized that every role within the ministry contributes significantly to its success.
He thanked them for their teamwork, dedication, and commitment, noting that he leaves the ministry more knowledgeable about local governance than when he assumed office.
He further highlighted the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) as a transformative agenda that requires full implementation, expressing confidence that the team he leaves behind is capable of achieving a 100 percent absorption rate.
He has urged staff to continue utilizing the decentralisation policy effectively, describing their work as a key pillar of the UPND’s development agenda.
Mr. Sialubalo acknowledged that in the course of his duties, he may have offended some individuals, but clarified that any such instances were unintentional and driven by the desire to see work done effectively.
He has disclosed that he has applied to recontest the Sinazongwe Constituency seat, leaving the final decision to the electorate.
