The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has assured the nation that the country has adequate fuel stocks despite reports of shortages in some areas.
ERB Director General Elijah Sichone has revealed that the country currently has 41.5 million litres of diesel, against a daily consumption rate of 4.5 million litres, enough to cover 10 days. Petrol stocks stand at 11.4 million litres, compared to a daily consumption of 1.6 million litres.
Eng. Sichone has urged the public to remain calm and avoid panic buying, stating that out of the 657 filling stations monitored across the country, 592 were selling both petrol and diesel, representing 90.1 percent. However, 55 filling stations were reported to have run out of petrol while 29 had no diesel.
He has further disclosed that the regulator is in the process of implementing a national petroleum stock management system, which will enable real-time monitoring of fuel availability across the country.
