Former Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili has failed to appear before the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court for the commencement of his trial, with his surety informing the court that he was unwell.
Kambwili is facing a charge of failing to appear before authorities at a point of entry, after allegedly leaving Zambia without presenting himself to immigration officers between January 1st and January 30th, 2024.
The matter came up before Magistrate George Njobvu, where the absence of the accused was explained by his surety, Moses Kapasa.
Kapasa told the court that Kambwili had complained of a health condition and had gone to Chilenje Hospital for medical attention.
The defence also indicated that they would provide supporting medical documentation, while the State did not object to the adjournment despite having three witnesses ready to testify.
The court has since adjourned the matter to June 1, 2026, giving the accused the benefit of doubt.
