Police in Lusaka have detained 45 former government workers who assembled at President Hakainde Hichilema’s residence with hopes of being addressed by the president over their benefits.
The retirees are currently at Woodlands Police station where they are being questioned by police.
The former government workers volunteered to leave the public service after the government promised to pay them benefits, some as far back as 20 years ago.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says the 45 are likely to be charged with unlawful assembly.
