Within just hours before Zambians could stomach increased fuel prices, they have yet again been hit by another economic bombshell.

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has approved ZESCO’s electricity tariffs citing a 700 Megawatts energy deficit and depreciation of the Kwacha.

The increment means households in what is known as R. Two (2) Tier will face a staggering 10.5 percent increase, from ninety-five Ngwee to one Kwacha five Ngwee per Kilowatt-Hour that use power above 300 kilowatt-hour of electricity.

The worst affected are consumers on commercial tariffs that use above 500 kilowatt-hour, that will face a tight squeeze of two Kwacha forty-four Ngwee per kilowatt-hour from the previous two Kwacha twenty-two Ngwee per kilowatt-hour.

The changes denote another economic upheaval for both domestic and commercial consumers that are grappling with a 13.8 percent inflation.
