ZESCO limited has disclosed the importation of electricity, effective 1st May 2024 in order to supplement the national power supply, following reduced generation due to low water levels.

Company Spokesperson, Matongo Maumbi, says the imported electricity will constitute approximately 20 percent of the total available power for at least 12 months.

Mr. Maumbi, however, explains the power utility will have reduced control over the stability and scheduling of the imported electricity.

He says while ZESCO will strive to maintain existing load shedding schedules, there is a possibility of unforeseen disruptions from the source.
