Several athletes who competed at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow have been reported missing after the conclusion of the competition, with authorities in Scotland investigating their disappearance.
According to multiple international media reports, four members of Uganda’s boxing team and one boxer from Pakistan failed to travel home with their respective delegations after the Games.
Ugandan broadcaster NBS Sport identified the missing athletes as Nuhu Batte, Angel Katushabe, Ibrahim Kemis and Emily Nakalema. The outlet reported that one of the athletes indicated the group intended to seek asylum in Scotland and pursue their boxing careers there.
Pakistani media has also reported that boxer Qudratullah did not board his team’s flight home after officials allegedly found his accommodation vacant before departure.
Police Scotland has confirmed receiving reports of several athletes who are unaccounted for and says investigations are underway in collaboration with the UK’s Home Office to establish the circumstances surrounding their disappearance.
The incident has drawn comparisons with the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where several athletes also went missing before some later sought asylum in the United Kingdom.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games concluded on Sunday after 11 days of competition involving approximately 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories. Organisers say they continue to work with Police Scotland, Border Force and UK Visas and Immigration as inquiries continue.
