Zambia has improved it’s corruption perception index score for the first time in a decade.
This is according to the 2023 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) that has been released by Transparency International Zambia TIZ.
From the report, the country has improved its score from 33 in 2022 to 37 in 2023 out of 100, consequently improving the rank by 18 places from 118 to 98 out of 180 countries in 2023.
According to TIZ Policy And Research Manager Bright Chizonde, the improved CPI has been attributed to the reduction of political corruption due to the peoples’ elevation of the fight against corruption under the United Party For National Development UPND and the establishment of the Economic and Financial Crimes Court among others.
Despite such a score, Zambia remains the worst performer in the fight against corruption in the subregion.
Countries like Botswana, Rwanda, Namibia, South Africa and Tanzania performed better than Zambia.
