The Lusaka City Council has demolished more than 500 illegal makeshift structures at the Blue Tent trading area, around Universal Church in Kamwala, in an operation aimed at restoring order and improving public health in the city.
The exercise, conducted in the early hours of today, involved Lusaka City Council Police working alongside the Zambia Police Service.
According to the Council, the structures were erected without the necessary approval, making them illegal.
The demolition was carried out under *Operation Clear Path*, an initiative aimed at restoring order in Lusaka and preventing the spread of diseases such as cholera.
The Council says its police officers, together with the Zambia Police Service, will maintain 24-hour patrols in the area to ensure that order is maintained and that illegal trading activities do not resume.
