SAKWIBA SIKOTA RAISES CONCERN OVER COURT ACCESS

.

One of the lawyers representing Brian Mundubile, Makebi Zulu and 16 others seeking constitutional bail has raised concern over restricted access to the Lusaka High Court, saying it threatens the right to access justice.

Mr Sikota complained that police roadblocks and repeated diversions took him 30 minutes to travel from his nearby office to court, despite having left early to file and serve legal documents on the state.

The complaint comes as the High Court continues hearing the bail application by the 18 accused, who have been in custody since August 14, 2026, over alleged treason, sedition and terrorism-related offences.

Meanwhile in an affidavit filed in the Lusaka High Court, the Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri has opposed the bail application by the Brian Mundubile and others arguing that they pose a flight risk and could interfere with prosecution witnesses because of their political influence.

The State alleges that the Mundubile and Zulu previously evaded arrest by seeking refuge at the United Nations House, forcing authorities to make special arrangements to secure their release into police custody.
