The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and charged a 25 year old taxi driver, Bobby Chinyama, for allegedly offering a K5,000 bribe to wildlife officers in exchange for the release of 56 protected exotic birds valued at between K168,000 and K210,000.
Chinyama, of Balastone’s Jamaica area in Lusaka, is charged with one count of corrupt practices, contrary to Section 19(2) of the Anti-Corruption Act, Chapter 91 of the Laws of Zambia.
ACC head of Cooperate Communications Joseph Mwenya says allegedly between 1st and 30th September 2026, Chinyama corruptly offered and sent K5,000 through mobile money to an individual to facilitate the release of the birds, known as Vulturine Guinea Fowls, which had been intercepted by officers from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife at Nakonde bus station.
ACC says the birds are protected under Zambian law and cannot be possessed or transported without a valid permit.
Chinyama has since been released on bond pending court appearance.
