Permanent Secretary Technical Services in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Nicholas Phiri, has urged public servants and public officers to uphold confidentiality and safeguard information obtained in the course of their duties.
Speaking in Ndola, where district and provincial officers from five provinces are gathered for a consultative meeting, Mr. Phiri says information obtained through public office must be protected to the highest standards expected of public servants.
Mr. Phiri has warned public officers against making recordings and sharing information that is not intended for public consumption, saying such conduct constitutes a serious offence.
He has further urged public servants and public officers to remain mindful of their responsibilities and execute their duties with due diligence, while upholding the values and ethical standards of the public service.
The consultative meeting has brought together officials from Luapula, Muchinga, North-Western, Northern and Copperbelt Provinces.
The meeting is aimed at reflecting on what local authorities have achieved over the past five years, identifying areas where they fell short, and charting the way forward for improved performance over the next five years.
