ZRA RECOUPS K21.6 MILLION IN LUANSHYA TAX EVASION CASE

.

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) says it has recovered more than K21.6 million in unpaid taxes from a Luanshya-based company convicted of tax evasion.

In a statement, ZRA Corporate Communications Manager Oliver Nzala said Amfube Investment Limited paid K21,602,751.10 in evaded Value Added Tax and Income Tax after being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Court in Luanshya for providing false tax returns and statements to the revenue authority.

Mr Nzala said the company pleaded guilty to ten counts of furnishing false returns and statements contrary to the Value Added Tax Act and was fined K30,000 by the court.

He said investigations revealed that between October 2021 and September 2023, the company submitted false information claiming it had received taxable supplies from various companies. The company also failed to file its 2023 income tax return, resulting in a loss of government revenue exceeding K21.6 million.

Mr Nzala said that, in addition to settling the outstanding taxes, the company paid K250,000 in prosecution costs incurred by the State.
