A 28-year-old mother of Mansa in Chief Chimese’s Chiefdom has allegedly hacked her own children to death using a hoe under unclear circumstances.
The suspect, identified as Gladys Kapya, is reported to have contacted her brother and mother shortly after the incident and asked them to come to her residence.
Upon arrival, family members allegedly found her in a distressed state and unable to explain what had happened, only directing them to where the children were later discovered inside the house.
The deceased have been identified as four-year-old Taizya Simukoko and one-month-old Paul Nkole.
A hoe with what was described as fresh blood stains was recovered from the scene and is believed to be linked to the incident.
The suspect has since been taken to Mansa General Hospital for mental assessment as police continue with investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the case.
