COURT SETS JULY 14TH FOR JUDGMENT IN NAKACINDA’S SEDITION CASE

.

The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has scheduled July 14, 2026, for judgment in a matter involving politician Raphael Nakacinda, who is facing a charge of seditious practices linked to statements allegedly made about President Hakainde Hichilema.

Mr. Nakacinda is accused of posting claims on social media in September 2024 alleging that President Hakainde Hichilema had instructed the Zambia Police, the Drug Enforcement Commission and the Anti-Corruption Commission to raid former President Edgar Lungu’s Chifwema residence, allegations he denied.

Magistrate Davies Chibwili has announced the judgment date, after the defense team closed its case, citing challenges in bringing forward witnesses.

Defense Lawyer informed the court that the defense encountered difficulties in fully presenting its case due to restrictions allegedly imposed by correctional authorities, which he said also limited access to legal counsel.

The lawyer further told court that he had recieved instructions from his client to withdraw the application to call the arresting officer who was expected to produce a warn and caution statement.
