A 48-year-old woman of Shibuyunji District, Beauty Mukumpo, has been left stranded in Lusaka along with her 10-year-old son, Boniface Mawaya, who is living with cerebral palsy.
Ms. Mukumpo says she is currently squatting at a well-wisher’s home in Chawama after traveling to Lusaka to seek medical treatment for her son at Chawama Level One Hospital.
She explains that her son was recently diagnosed with sores affecting his throat and breathing tract.
Following his assessment, he has since been referred to Beit Cure Hospital for physiotherapy.
However, Ms. Mukumpo says she cannot afford the transport or medical-related costs required to continue his treatment.
She is now appealing to well-wishers for support, particularly a wheelchair, as her son is unable to sit on his own.
She says she is forced to carry him on her back at all times, making it difficult to manage daily activities.
She has further disclosed that she has exhausted all her financial resources, including the small capital she relied on for sustenance.
During her son’s hospital admission, she depended on assistance from other patients to help provide food.
Ms. Mukumpo is also calling on members of the public to assist with transportation to and from Beit Cure Hospital, as well as basic necessities such as diapers for her son.
