Zambia-China Mulungushi Textiles has printed and dispatched close to two million metres of fabric since resuming operations in April 2026.
The Kabwe-based plant, which had been closed for more than two decades, has undergone rehabilitation and the installation of new machinery.
Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe says the new equipment has the capacity to produce about 20,000 metres of fabric a day.
Speaking during a tour of the facility in Kabwe, Mr Mwanakampwe said obsolete machinery at the plant had been removed and replaced with state-of-the-art equipment.
He says producing two million metres within two to three months is a significant achievement for a plant that had been dormant for more than 21 years.
Mr. Mwanakampwe says the modern machinery has helped restore production at the facility and increase its manufacturing capacity.
Meanwhile, Mulungushi Textiles General Manager Brigadier General Emmanuel Simenti says the company has dispatched all the close to two million metres of fabric it has printed.
Brigadier General Simenti says payments were being made as orders were dispatched and that production has progressed smoothly since the plant resumed operations.
He says the company has also increased its printing capacity from one machine to two, following the introduction of a digital printer.
The digital printer allows the company to handle smaller orders, including quantities of about 2,000 metres, while also providing branding services for T-shirts and other clothing materials.
The larger printing machine can handle orders ranging from 20,000 to 50,000 metres.
The production and dispatch figures mark an early measure of the revival of Mulungushi Textiles after more than two decades of closure.
