Government says it is engaging stakeholders on possible water tariff adjustments as the sector continues to face serious funding challenges.
Minister of Water Development and Sanitation Eng. Collins Nzovu says financing for the water and sanitation sector remains inadequate despite significant investments by Government and cooperating partners.
Speaking during the launch of the 2024 Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Report, Mr. Nzovu says the situation has been worsened by tariffs that have not been adjusted in the past five years, placing heavy financial pressure on utility companies.
He says cost-reflective tariffs are critical for sustainable service delivery, infrastructure development, and the expansion of services across the country.
Mr. Nzovu says Government is therefore working with stakeholders to implement tariff adjustments that balance affordability for consumers and sustainability for service providers.
