Government says it has lifted restrictions on the export of maize and maize products, including mealie meal, in a move aimed at boosting farmer incomes and expanding market opportunities.
Ministry of Agriculture Principal Public Relations Officer Balewa Zyuulu says the decision is designed to support farmers, promote fair market access, and stimulate economic activity in the agriculture and agro-processing sectors.
Mr. Zyuulu says by allowing exports, farmers—especially small-scale producers will be able to access more competitive local and international markets, improving household incomes.
He says the policy will also contribute to national food security through structured and regulated trade, while ensuring that farmers benefit from their production.
Mr. Zyuulu says all traders, millers, processors, and individuals can now export maize and related products, provided they obtain the necessary export permits through the Zambia Electronic Single Window platform.
Authorities have also urged exporters to comply with documentation requirements and process permits at designated exit points, including the Konkola Check Point for Kasumbalesa Border exports.
The Ministry has since encouraged stakeholders to follow established procedures to ensure smooth trade and has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing citizens’ welfare and economic growth.
