The Treasury has released 2.7 billion Kwacha to the Food Reserve Agency to support food security, as the government steps up financing of key agricultural interventions.
Secretary to the Treasury Felix Nkulukusa says the allocation forms part of the 21.1 billion Kwacha released by the Ministry of Finance and National Planning in July to support public services, social programmes, and development activities.
Mr. Nkulukusa has also disclosed that 660 million Kwacha was released under the Farmer Input Support Programme, bringing total FISP funding for 2026 to 6.4 billion Kwacha.
He has further added that the latest funding demonstrates its continued investment in agriculture and national food security, with the FRA allocation expected to support interventions aimed at strengthening the country’s food reserves.
The July releases also included 564.2 million Kwacha for the Social Cash Transfer Programme, while 841.4 million Kwacha was released as grants to schools to support the free education programme.
Secretary to the Treasury Felix Nkulukusa says the government remains focused on ensuring that budget resources translate into tangible benefits for citizens, particularly in food security, agriculture, education, and social protection.
