Zambia has recorded 12 new cholera cases in the last 24 hours, with no deaths recorded.
Speaking during a press briefing in Solwezi, Minister of Health Dr. Alex Katakwe said that out of the 12 new cases, 11 were recorded in Lusaka and 1 in Mpulungu District of Northern Province.
Dr. Katakwe said that since August last year, the country has recorded a cumulative total of 1,415 cholera cases, of which 22 deaths have been recorded across the country, with 25 districts affected nationwide.
However, he said the government has heightened surveillance and preparedness measures in Lusaka and across the country as part of efforts to prevent further spread of the disease.
Dr. Katakwe added that the Ministry of Health has also intensified preventive measures at the University of Zambia to ensure that no possible cases of cholera are recorded at the institution.
Meanwhile, North-Western Province Provincial Health Director Dr. Luckson Chidikita said the province has continued to implement the preventive measures put in place by the government to ensure that an outbreak of more cases in the province is not recorded.
