North-Western Province Minister Robert Lihefu has strongly refuted allegations that the recent mob killing of Helen Kamutumbe in Kalumbila was motivated by tribal differences, describing the claims as false and misleading.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka, Mr. Lihefu clarified that the deceased was a native of North-Western Province, hailing from Muthea Village in Chief Ingwe’s chiefdom in Kasempa District, with maternal ties to the Ingwe royal family.
He emphasized that attempts to suggest otherwise are baseless and risk fueling unnecessary divisions among citizens.
The Minister condemned the act of mob justice, stressing that regardless of one’s origin, such violence cannot be justified under any circumstances.
He further expressed concern over the spread of misinformation, particularly by influential figures, warning that such narratives undermine ongoing investigations and heighten tensions in affected communities.
Mr. Lihefu has since called for calm in Kalumbila and surrounding areas, urging residents not to panic as police continue to apprehend suspects linked to the incident.
He has also appealed to the public to promote peace, unity, and harmony, while allowing the family of the deceased to mourn with dignity.
