Lusaka Province has recorded five new suspected cholera cases in the last 24 hours, all originating from Lusaka District, amid the rain season that heighten the risk of further transmission.
Provincial Health Director Dr Simulyamana Choongo says while the numbers remain few and manageable, the prevailing rainy season continues to pose serious public health risks.
Speaking in an interview with Diamond News, Dr Choongo revealed that three of the suspected cases were reported from Munali Sub-District, with two coming from Chainda Compound and one from Mtendere East, while one case was recorded in Chawama and another in Chipata Compound in Mandevu Constituency.
He has disclosed that Lusaka Province has so far confirmed 52 cholera cases through laboratory tests, with the cumulative number of suspected cases standing at 266 since November, adding that Munali Constituency, particularly Chainda, remains the most affected area, followed by Mandevu and Chawama.
