ZAF TARGETS K6M FOR NDOLA’S VULNERABLE THROUGH EXPO, MARATHON

.

The Zambia Air Force (ZAF) says it is targeting to raise six million kwacha (K6,000,000) from the 2026 ZAF Expo and Marathon to support vulnerable communities in Ndola.

Speaking at a media breakfast attended by Chief Executive Officers and Managing Directors from various institutions, ZAF Commander Lieutenant General Oscar Nyoni said the two events will serve as a fundraiser for critical community projects aimed at improving livelihoods.

Lieutenant General Nyoni says the initial projects will include water reticulation, the rehabilitation of Mitanda Home for the Aged, and the furnishing of a local special-needs school with classroom desks.

He explains that the two-day event will be held on March 6 for the Expo and March 7 for the half marathon at Peter Zuze Air Force Base, shortly after the commemoration of Zambia Air Force Day on March 1, 2026.

The ZAF Commander says Ndola was selected for its strategic importance, noting that the city hosts key national installations that reflect the heritage and operational history of the Zambia Air Force.

Lieutenant General Nyoni has further explained that although the Zambia Air Force is 61 years old, March 1 is observed as Zambia Air Force Day in honour of 1972, the year when Lieutenant General Peter Zuze (Retired) became the first indigenous Zambian to assume command of the Air Force.

He adds that Ndola is home to an Air Force base named after the retired commander, in recognition of his pioneering role.

According to Lieutenant General Nyoni, the Expo and Marathon are an open invitation to the public to interact with their Air Force, while also providing an opportunity for the institution to better understand its people, history, and role in national development.
