DOCTOR TESTIFIES IN DEFILEMENT CASE INVOLVING 6 YEAR OLD GIRL ALLEGEDLY ABUSED BY POLICE OFFICER

A senior medical doctor, formerly stationed at Mazabuka General Hospital and currently based at Monze Mission Hospital, has testified before the Mazabuka Magistrate’s Court in a defilement case involving a six-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually abused by her stepfather, a police officer attached to Mazabuka Central Police Station.
When the matter came up for continued trial this morning before Resident Magistrate Changa Chitabo, Dr. Ireen Silishebo told the court that a physical examination conducted on the minor on 29 September 2025 revealed the presence of a thick white substance around the vagina, strongly suggesting semen.
Dr. Silishebo further testified that she observed swelling of the vagina accompanied by blood discharge, as well as old bruises on the hymen with cuts at the 6, 7, and 10 o’clock positions, which were in the process of healing.
She explained that during a medical interview, the child stated that her father had done bad manners to her, an account which, according to the doctor, was consistent with the medical findings indicating sexual abuse.
The doctor also informed the court that the child was tested for bilharzia, Hepatitis B, and other sexually transmitted infections, all of which returned negative results.
The accused, Mizinga Sibajene of the Motel Area in Mazabuka District, is appearing before the court charged with defilement contrary to Section 138(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
According to the particulars of the offense, Sibajene is alleged to have had unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor on unknown dates between 21st and 29th September 2025.
So far, seven witnesses have testified in the matter. The case has been adjourned to 24 December 2025 for continued trial, during which the arresting officer is expected to give evidence.
