A 26-year-old man in Chasefu District has been arrested for the defilement and murder of a 12-year-old girl, claiming he was instructed to commit the act by a traditional healer to get rich.
The suspect of Gadaila Village allegedly attacked the victim on the morning of 22nd October 2025.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has confirmed to Diamond News that the suspect confessed he went to a traditional man in a neighboring village seeking riches and was given charms and instructed to have sex with a girl.
On October 22, 2025, the victim visited the home of the suspect to pick up the suspects 11-year-old daughter, so they would go to school.
The suspect then sent the victim away and later followed her, dragged her in the nearby bush, where he assault and murdered her, fearing she would identify him.
The victim’s body was discovered the following day, and a post-mortem examination at Lundazi District Hospital confirmed she was both defiled and murdered.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is awaiting court appearance.
