ZAMBIAN TRUCK DRIVER SHOT DEAD IN SOUTH AFRICA

.

A Zambian truck driver, Victor Bwalya, has been shot dead in Durban, South Africa, near Access World.

The United Truck Drivers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia President, Givers Moonga, has confirmed the incident to Diamond News.

Mr Moonga says the union has received the news with shock and sadness, extending condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and the transport community.

He has condemned the killing, describing it as a senseless and barbaric act against a driver who was contributing to regional trade and economic activities.

Mr Moonga says the motive behind the shooting is not yet known and has called on South African law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

.

The union president has also raised concern over the continued insecurity faced by truck drivers operating on regional routes, saying more needs to be done to protect drivers working across borders.

UTDAWUZ has since called on the governments of Zambia and South Africa, as well as transport stakeholders, to strengthen security measures to safeguard truck drivers.
