
Paris Saint-Germain have been crowned European champions for the second consecutive year after beating Arsenal on penalties in The UEFA Champions League final in Budapest.
The match ended 1-1 after 120 minutes at the Puskás Arena, with PSG lifting the trophy following a tense penalty shootout.
Kai Havertz gave Arsenal the perfect start, burying the opening goal in just the sixth minute. But Ousmane Dembélé levelled from the spot in the 62nd minute after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia drew a penalty, sending the game into extra time.
In the shootout, PSG held their nerve to win 4-3 on penalties, with Arsenal missing their final kick to hand the French giants back-to-back European titles.
PSG have become only the second team to win consecutive Champions League titles since the competition was reformatted and rebranded in the early 1990s.
For Arsenal, the heartbreak is historic, The Gunners have now competed in more Champions League matches than any other club without ever lifting the trophy a painful footnote to what had otherwise been a remarkable season.
Mikel Arteta’s side had already ended a 22-year wait for a Premier League title this season, and arrived in Budapest with a chance to complete one of the greatest campaigns in the club’s history ,Instead, they leave empty-handed and carrying the unwanted record of being European football’s greatest nearly men.
