President Hakainde Hichilema has condemned all forms of political violence, intimidation, and hate speech as Zambia heads toward the August 13, 2026, General Election.
Welcoming the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (ZCCB) pastoral statement, State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka said the Church’s message is fully aligned with President Hichilema’s longstanding call for peaceful, free, fair, and credible elections.
Mr. Hamasaka said the President agrees that Zambia must never return to the dark days of political violence, cadreism, and fear.
He added that the government remains firmly committed to safeguarding peace and ensuring that every eligible Zambian is free to campaign and vote without intimidation.
According to Mr. Hamasaka, President Hichilema is confident that the forthcoming General Election will be conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner.
The President has therefore called on all political parties, candidates, and their supporters to reject violence in all its forms, uphold the rule of law, and treat one another with dignity and respect throughout the electoral process.
Meanwhile, President Hichilema has urged the nation to continue mourning the late former Vice President and Acting President, Dr. Guy Scott, with dignity, honour, and respect.
