Police in Nakonde have arrested two men in connection with the murder of an unknown person whose body was found in Chiyanga village.
The body was discovered on 4th September 2026 at around 20:00 hours, lying in the graveyard, about 13 meters from the primary crime scene and 5km from Nakonde CBD. The victim had multiple head injuries and was stained in blood.
According to police, 32-year-old businessman Steve Hasunga of Chiyanga reported the body to CCPU members. However, officers noticed blood stains on his clothes and extended investigations.
A search of Hasunga’s bar identified as the primary scene led to the recovery of a wooden weight, concrete weight, hammer and stone, all stained with blood and believed to have been used in the killing. Pieces of blood-stained carton box were also recovered.
The two suspects, Steve Hasunga, 32, and Cosmas Muwowo, 48, are currently in detention. A docket for murder has been opened and they are expected to appear in court soon.
Blood samples from both scenes have been sent to the Science and Chemistry Lab for DNA analysis to link the suspects to the crime. The recovered weapons have been secured as exhibits.
Investigations are ongoing.
