A 33 year old woman of Zambia Compound in Choma District has been found dead in her house in a suspected murder.
Southern Province Police Commissioner Moono Namalongo has confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased’s 49 year old mother, Mildred Yomena, reported the matter to police after her daughter, Rosemary Mudenda, was found dead on September 7, 2026.
According to police, the mother was at home when she received a telephone call from a concerned member of the public informing her that her daughter had been found dead in her house.
She immediately rushed to the house, where she found her daughter lying in a pool of blood. A blood stained knife was also found near the deceased’s head.
The mother then rushed to Shampande Police Post and reported the matter.
Police officers visited the scene and confirmed the report. A physical inspection of the body revealed two cuts one on the neck and another on the stomach.
The body was later taken to Choma General Hospital, where she was certified dead, before being deposited in the mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s 50 year old husband has been apprehended and is detained in police custody in connection with the incident.
